A second round of grants worth nearly $1 million for pet desexing and equinerehabilitation was announced by the Victorian Government.

The grants are available to organisations that provide free or low-cost de-sexing programs for cats and dogs owned by vulnerable and/or disadvantagedVictorians. Organisations that rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses, poniesor other eligible equine species are also eligible to apply.

A total of $500,000 will be allocated to the cat and dog desexing grants,while $471,500 will be allocated for the support of the equine rescue,rehabilitation, and rehoming organisations.

The grants are part of the Animal Welfare Fund Grants Program, established bythe Victorian Government to support the improvement of companion animalwelfare in the state.

The $3 million funding commitment includes $1 million for animal shelters andfoster carers to purchase equipment or upgrade or expand their services and $2million for not-for profit and community vet clinics to maintain and expandtheir services and allow new low-cost clinics to be set up in areas of needaround Victoria.

The current pet desexing and equine rehabilitation grants opened on 26 Marchand will close on 1 May 2022 with only one application permitted perorganisation.
