With an estimated 400,000 animals abandoned every year in Australia, animallovers are being called upon to express their true feelings and save a pet’slife on Saturday, 17 August.
In it’s fifth year, the annual Just For Pets Save A Life Animal Adoption dayhappens Saturday 17th August at your local participating Just For Pets Store.Over the past four years we have proudly helped in the adoption and re-homingof 350 abandoned and unwanted pets, our aim this year is to raise that numberto 450.
The idea is the brainchild of national independent pet store chain Just forPets, which has teamed up with rescue groups across Australia to giveabandoned animals another chance at a happy family life.
CEO of Just for Pets and Animal Advocate Karen Justice said every yearhundreds of thousands of animals are abandoned in Australia and more than180,000 are euthanized.
“ Save a Life Day is a wonderful opportunity to adopt a pet as well as raisemuch needed funds to help animal rescue groupscare for the huge number ofanimals that require veterinary care, food and shelter every year.”
Save A Life day is important because:
- Animals can spend up to two years waiting in animal refuges because pet lovers don’t often come face to face with them. Making an animal visible is the key to re-housing and adoption.
- It raises awareness of the importance of pets in our lives. Pet ownership brings with it many health benefits including more physical exercise, less anxiety and stress, and lessons for children (and sometimes even adults!) on responsibility and empathy.
- It provides an opportunity to fundraise for pets in need. Each store has played a huge part in raising funds for their chosen rescue by way of BBQ’s, raffles, cupcake stalls and overall donations in stores.
By showcasing rescue animals in search of forever homes through our nationaladoption day it gives them an extra window of exposure to pet owners who maynot know the options available to acquire a rescue pet.
On Saturday August 17, selected Just for Pets stores Australia wide will beoffering activities such as giveaways, prizes, face painting and fundraisingBBQ’s also offering pets up for adoption or meet ‘n’ greets.
All animals up for adoption have been vaccinated, micro-chipped and tested fortemperament and their suitability for rehoming. Cats have been de-sexed.
“Pet lovers can help by giving one of these animals a loving home or justturning up in-store to have some fun and help raise much-needed funds.”
