The final report from the Victorian Government’s Taskforce on Rehoming Petshas been released, listing a number of recommendations.

RSPCA Victoria provided a submission advocating for a number of the resultingrecommendations, including improvements to the regulatory framework forrehoming pets, that will work to improve the welfare of dogs and catsrequiring rehoming.

The Taskforce, made up of Member for Western Victoria Andy Meddick, Member forBendigo West Maree Edwards, and Member for Narre Warren South Gary Maas, madea total of 17 recommendations since being launched on 30 March 2021.

The Taskforce investigated how to improve and better support rehoming pathwaysfor dogs and cats in Victoria, including those used in medical research.

RSPCA Victoria said they are pleased to see the regulation of rescue groupshas been included in the recommendations from the Taskforce, and that thiswill help ensure all animal care groups are transparent and adhere to the samestandards.
