The Public Health Agency of Canada announced that the group is winding downits investigation into an outbreak of Salmonella linked to pig ear dog chews.On September 29, 2020, the supplying company, Masters Best Friend, voluntarilyissued a notice of stop sale for Paws Up! and Western Family brands of pig eardog treats. These products were sold throughout Canada.
The Public Health Agency of Canada collaborated with provincial andterritorial public health partners to investigate an outbreak of Salmonellainfections that occurred in British Columbia, Alberta, and Yukon. The outbreakappears to be over, according to a press release from the agency.
In total, ten cases of Salmonella Typhimurium illness were reported in thefollowing provinces and territories: British Columbia (5), Alberta (4), andYukon (1). Individuals became sick between late February and late September2020. Three individuals were hospitalized. In addition, one death wasreported. Individuals who became ill were between 7 and 95 years of age. Theillnesses were distributed equally among men (50%) and women (50%).

September 30, 2020 – Some of the individuals who became sick reported feedingtheir dog Paws Up! and Western Family brands of pig ear dog treats beforetheir illnesses occurred.
