In response to the ongoing uncertainty in Victoria and across Australiaregarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Event Management International (EMI) hasrescheduled its annual Melbourne Dog Lovers Show to 14 until 16 October2022 at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

One of the world’s largest dog-dedicated festivals, the Melbourne Dog LoversShow was set to make its debut at Jeff’s Shed in October this year after eightyears at the Royal Exhibition Building. Its postponement marks EMI’s ninthrescheduled event since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

We were confident that an October 2021 date would provide us with ampletime for the situation to subside across the nation, but unfortunately that’snot the case and it’s now unlikely that any major indoor events will run in2021 , said Jason Humphris , CEO of EMI and Show Founder.

Before the current east coast outbreak, EMI was gearing up for its mostsuccessful year yet with advanced ticket sales for the Sydney Dog Lovers Showup more than 220% and the Melbourne Dog Lovers Show was set to breakattendance records with its first appearance at the MCEC.

Like many other small businesses and event organisers across Australia, these past 18-months have been incredibly challenging. I am so proud of ourteam who have worked tirelessly to get these shows to such a strong positiondespite not being able to see them come to fruition,” continued Humphris.

“As the leading pet-dedicated event in the country, we are deeply aware ofthe vital role the Dog Lovers Show plays in showcasing this wonderful industryand the in-kind support we are able to provide dog adoption groups, breedersand charities across the country ,” said Humphris.

“Rescheduling to 2022 enables us to wait for a period where there is moreeconomic stability, lockdowns are no longer the default of governments and amuch larger percentage of the population is vaccinated – that’s when we areconfident this sector and our Show will have a clear path to success and beable to thrive,” added Humphris.

“Our hearts go out to all the other event organisers, suppliers and venuesthat have been hit so hard once again this year and are dealing with thechallenge of not being able to recover substantial financial sums. Over thenext 12 months, we are committed to doing everything we can to deliver ourbest Shows yet in 2022 when the world is hopefully in much better shape,”said Humphris.

Across three days, the 2022 Melbourne Dog Lovers Show is set to rival the 2019program with more than 1,000 dogs representing over 150 breeds and hundreds ofexhibitors. The events long awaited return will be heaven for dog lovers andinclude memorable performances from the Black Hawk DockDogs, K9 stars ofInstagram, exhilarating Sheep Dog Speed Trials by Australian Working DogRescue plus educational talks from Australia’s favourite celebrity vetsincluding Dr Katrina Warren alongside Kelly Gill and The Wonderdogs.
