A 5-year-old domestic shorthair tuxedo cat named Socks has met her LEGO®doppelganger at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre!
Socks’ owner James Choi was the winner of the indoor LEGO play centre’scompetition to give one lucky cat lover a life-size LEGO replica of theirfeline friend.
After launching the competition on International Cat Day in August 2020,LEGOLAND Discovery Centre’s Master Builder, Kieran Jiwa, received over 500entries from cat parents all over Australia.
“Our ‘Build Your Cat’ competition proved to be just as popular as we thoughtit would be. Who wouldn’t want a LEGO model of their beloved cat? We declaredSocks as the winner thanks to James’ story about how much she loves playingwith his LEGO,” said Kieran.
Kieran spent over 40 hours designing and building the custom-made model, whichcomprises of approximately 2,300 LEGO pieces. The most challenging part of theconstruction process was making sure she looked as rotund as the real cat, without losing too much detail. Kieran had to order additional LEGO bricks asSocks, like so many others, stacked on a few COVID kilos.
“I think the LEGO replica is spot on although we haven’t been able toreplicate Socks’ magnetic attraction to fresh laundry or her ability to snorelike a bear. We introduced Socks to her LEGO double today and she was quiteamused,” continued Kieran.
You can see Master Model Builder Kieran in action at LEGOLAND Discovery Centrefrom Friday – Tuesday and you can follow the adventures of Socks on herInstagram page @socksthecat_official.
