Every dog has its day — and this day belongs to the Biewer Terrier.

The Biewer Terrier on Monday became the 197th dog breed to be recognized bythe American Kennel Club.

“This wonderful little dog makes a great companion for a variety of people,and we’re excited to introduce dog lovers to another fantastic breed that maybe a perfect match for their family,” Gina DiNardo, the executive director ofthe American Kennel Club, said in a statement.

“As always, we encourage people to do their research to find the right breedfor their lifestyle.”

The organization describes Biewer Terriers as loyal and loving companions with“childlike, whimsical” attitudes.

“Their long coat requires daily brushing to keep it free of mats,” the AKCsaid in Monday’s announcement. “Biewer Terriers are easy going and don’t needa great deal of exercise. Daily walks and playtime will give them the activitythey need.”

With Monday’s recognition from the AKC, Biewer Terriers will now be allowed totake part in competitions approved by the organization as part of the ToyGroup.
